Genetic testing for Autism is the standard-of-care once a clinical diagnosis has been confirmed. The decision to carry out genetic testing should be a joint process with the patient/family and medical team, with decision to proceed entirely in the hands of each patient. This is an evolving field; consult genetics professional on current care pathways. Resources are available for both providers and patients to navigate this process
Precision Medicine in Autism (PRISMA) - is a multidisciplinary effort at The University of Alberta, CASA Mental Health and Alberta Health Services and brings together genetic counselors, child, adolescent and adult psychiatrists, and other clinicians and researchers, under the direction of Dr. Daniel Moreno De Luca. They work closely with individuals with a diagnosis of autism or neurodevelopmental conditions who come to see them in the context of mental health needs, often helping to identify an underlying genetic diagnosis. PRISMA’s current efforts span the areas of research, clinical services, education and community engagement.

I added a bunch of stuff, not sure of the quality. Not totally sure what some of the things under private clinics for Edmonton are. Also, there are a lot of Calgary private clinics from the Alberta Referral Directory and I don't know if these are just private peds clinics or if they actually have exceptional expertise in ASD. This would benefit from someone with more knowledge about ASD taking a look at it! - Matt R Oct 28 2025
